This year’s Symposium theme intersects with the interdisciplinary field of memory studies, focusing on when / how / why parishioners remember(ed) events, customs, people and other aspects of their locality & culture. The meeting coincides with Miia Kuha’s visiting fellowship at My-Parish & Beat Kümin’s project on tower capsule deposits supported by the Gerda Henkel Foundation.

We are looking forward to a keynote address on 'The Parish as a Place of Memory in Medieval Central Europe' by Katalin Szende (Central European University) and 15 papers on various British and other European contexts from the Middle Ages to modern times.

Twenty-Second Warwick Symposium on Parish Research - Parish Memory

The Symposium will be held, in hybrid format, on Warwick's Central Campus near Coventry & online. Since its inception in 2003, it has always been an inclusive forum of exchange between anyone with active research interests in parish culture from whatever background or career stage. The co-organizers now warmly invite registrations.

To take part, please follow the appropriate route on our homepage at: http://warwick.ac.uk/my-parish/parishsymposia/memory/.

There are options for accepted speakers (no fee), in-person delegates (£25 regular or £15 student/unwaged) and virtual participants (£5 booking fee). Please note that advance registration is mandatory and that bookings close on 1 May 2024.

We look forward to seeing you on 11 May!
